Marriott has six Caribbean resorts closed from hurricane damage

Marriott International said six of its luxury and
upper-upscale resorts in the Caribbean are closed “until further notice”
because of damage from hurricanes Irma and Maria.

In the U.S. Virgin Islands, Marriott has shuttered Frenchman’s
Reef Morning Star Marriott Beach Resort, Westin St. John Resort Villas
and Ritz-Carlton St. Thomas.

The Scrub Island Resort in the British Virgin Islands, which
is part of Marriott’s Autograph Collection, is also closed, as is the Westin
Dawn Beach Resort Spa in St. Maarten and the W Retreat Spa on the
Puerto Rican island of Vieques.

“Efforts are underway to fully restore operations but
some hotels may have temporary interruption or limited availability of guest
services,” Marriott said in a statement.

As of Friday morning, Maria was taking aim at Turks and
Caicos and may approach the Bahamas over the weekend.
