You can fly to the Caribbean for just $59 right now

These are some high-flying deals.

 announced a sale on airfare with some one-way flights to the Caribbean for $59 and to Ireland for $99. Among the deals: Fly from New York City to the islands of Martinique or Guadeloupe, for $59 one way; or from Providence, Rhode Island or Stewart Airport in New York to Dublin for $99 one way.

Of course, there are caveats to these deals: These are one-way flights, and your return flight is most likely to be upwards of $100. Plus, these deals aren’t available for every date and in most cases you must fly from Jan. 14 to March 31.

But even if that $59 jaunt down to the Caribbean doesn’t work for you, there’s good news: You’ll likely get a good deal on airfare right now to almost anywhere.

“The period from now through the middle of February (when school vacations start) is arguably the cheapest time to fly not just within the US but everywhere,” says George Hobica, the founder of airfare deals site AirfareWatchdog.com — adding that the other period for big deals is “just after Thanksgiving until the middle of December.”

Travel app Hopper predicts a 3.2% monthly drop in domestic round-trip flight prices in January to $220. “The winter period is starting with low prices through January, but we expect prices to rise after that starting in February to $235 round-trip. Prices will gradually rise through the winter and spring until peaking in June likely around $260 round-trip,” says Patrick Surry, the chief data scientist at Hopper.

So why are deals so great this month? “January is the month we’re all getting back to reality, not thinking about a vacation — the post-holiday lull, spending fatigue, business travel coming back online slowly and winter weather, which challenges travel to many northern hemisphere destinations,” explains Gabe Saglie, an editor and anchor at travel firm Travelzoo. “These factors all converge to slow demand and create greater need in the travel industry. The result is some of the best airfare, hotel and vacation package pricing we’ll see all year.”

One exotic locale to watch for deals: Hawaii, says Saglie, who adds that you can find deals starting now and throughout the year. The volcano “Kilauea affected the Big Island big time and late-summer storms led to a slew of cancellations statewide, [so] resorts and airlines are poised to generate a rebound through creative promotions,” he explains.

Other spots to look for deals include New York City, Chicago, San Francisco, San Diego, Los Angeles, Orlando, even Las Vegas (with spotty exceptions as conventions begin to roll in), Saglie says. “Throw in Southwest’s imminent entry into Hawaii flights out of four California cities any day now, and that will have an even bigger effect on consumer values to the Island State, and beginning in January,” he adds.
