In 2006, Chokri took Marta to Boston to meet his close friends from Tunisia. He proposed while there, and he and Marta were married on Dec. 28, 2008. “We never wanted a big wedding.” They preferred to save their money for school, to buy a house someday, and to travel to see their families, Marta said. Her parents and her brother, who lives in Edmonton, Canada, were able to come to the wedding, but none of Chokri’s relatives were able to join them for their reception in the community room of the apartment where they lived in Middletown.
