We’re No. 1: Travel magazine says Port Canaveral voted world’s best cruise port

Bustling with loads of cargo vessels, eager tourists, and most importantly massive cruise ships ready to whisk away their plentiful customers, the port’s already recognized as one of Brevard’s top attractions.
Now it has bragging rights for “world’s best.”
Recently, Port Canaveral was voted world’s best cruise port in Global Traveler magazine, a monthly magazine for business and leisure luxury travelers. The magazine conducted a reader survey with open-ended questions to determine the best port based on categories such as leisure, luxury and lifestyle travel. The port also received the 2019 Leisure Lifestyle Award from the magazine.
“On behalf of our employees and this community, Port Canaveral is proud to receive this prestigious award, and thanks to Global Traveler and its readers for acknowledging our efforts and commitment,” said John Murray, port director and CEO.
$77.7 million in revenue was generated from cruise passengers in the 2018 fiscal year, and more than 6 million tons of cargo pass through the terminals every year. Two weeks ago, the port hosted six cruise ships and had 35,111 passengers going in and out of the port on that day alone, 30,000 according to Steve Linden, the port’s director of communications and public affairs. About 4.5 million people passed through the passenger port last year, officials say.

Melbourne native Michaela Foley, 20, and her boyfriend, Mitchell Spalding, recently spent four nights on a Royal Caribbean cruise to Nassau, the Bahamas, and the cruiseliners private island Coco Cay that left out of Port Canaveral.
“The port was easy to navigate, and we didn’t have any issues getting on and off of the cruise ship,” said Foley.

“We had a great time and we most certainly would book out of Port Canaveral again.”
