ConsumerAffairs survey reveals wariness about Dominican Republic

A survey conducted by ConsumerAffairs found that 9% of
respondents have changed accommodations or destinations because of the recent
tourist deaths in the Dominican Republic, and 78% were concerned about the
news.

ConsumerAffairs offers reviews and resources for consumers
to assist with big purchases, including travel.

Consumer media has been highlighting tourist
deaths
in the Dominican Republic, and the industry has been feeling the ripple
effects.

Of those concerned about the news, 59% said they are likely
to purchase travel insurance that has medical coverage, ConsumerAffairs said.

According to the survey, older respondents were more likely
to be concerned about the tourist deaths. In total, 86% of those 65 or older
were concerned, compared with 63% of respondents ages 25-39.

Only 2% of survey respondents had plans to travel to the
Dominican Republic, but 82% are traveling this summer in the U.S., Canada or
Mexico.

ConsumerAffairs sent its survey to its 150,000-consumer user
base and received 650 responses.
