I spent my honeymoon watching Netflix – and it was brilliant
Netflix and chill is no longer an innuendo. That is not to say that the term can not be used as a euphemism for stealthy bedroom activity anymore – as it was intended when first coined in 2015 – but that with the passing of time and ageing of its contemporaries, it’s much more likely to be proclaimed literally. Stick on Netflix, and chill.
And this is none more true today than on holiday. Gone are the days when watching TV away on a break was tantamount to sacrilege – you should be out exploring, immersing yourself in the culture, etc – it is now entirely acceptable to spend your leisure time abroad watching the same shows as you would were you back on the sofa in Blighty.
It was previously the case that staying inside to watch TV on holiday was not only an affront to travel itself but also debilitatingly boring. No one would give up their precious leave time to sit in front of the same 24-hour news bulletins on repeat on the only English channel on the box.
