Mary Dauch Davis

Mary Davis, of Lexington, passed away Sunday evening, July 26, 2020, at home after a prolonged illness. Mary was born February 12, 1930, to Elizabeth F. Dauch (Pierce) and Wade W. Dauch in Sandusky, Ohio. She was a graduate of Sandusky High School and attended Carlton and Oberlin College’s. She later obtained her Masters in Social Work from Wake Forest University.

Mary was well known in the community as a caring person who worked to help those in need. She was not afraid to stand up for what she believed and advocated for civil rights for both women and minorities. In addition to marching in parades and writing letters to the editor in her spare time, her work included manning the phones for the Davidson County Suicide Hotline, serving as director of the Davidson County Battered Women’s Shelter and as a bereavement counselor for Hospice of Davidson County. Mary volunteered for the United Way, Meals on Wheels, and helped start the Habitat for Humanity Chapter in Lexington. She was a long-time member of Grace Episcopal Church where over the years she was a member of the Vestry, served as Senior Warden, led the Youth Group, and served on numerous committees.
