We believe cruising can resume safely at Port Everglades | Opinion – South Florida Sun Sentinel
Broward County’s Port Everglades, where I’ve served as chief executive and port director since June 29, following seven years as executive director of the port of Gulfport, Mississippi, is the third-busiest cruising home port in the world. Of the more than 13,000 direct regional jobs supported by businesses at Port Everglades, approximately 6,000 are directly related to the cruise industry. Another 84,000 residents are employed in the local hospitality and tourism industry. Those jobs have been severely impacted by the virus.
