Cruising with Crystal Lake Travel

If you have decided that you next vacation will be a cruise, there are a few questions you should think about before booking your trip.

First, what size ship? Today, travelers have their choice between small and large ships as well as everything in between. Generally, the larger ships offer more amenities and features and cost less. The smaller ship, although more expensive, offers travelers a cozier, community experience. Families typically choose the larger ships because of the entertainment options while older clients prefer the sophisticated atmosphere of the smaller ships.

Second, where would you like to go and how long do you want to stay? According to Fodor’s, the best destinations for year-round cruising are Asia, the Bahamas and Caribbean, Europe, Hawaii, Mexican Riviera, South America, and the South Pacific. Obviously, other regions are available but may have a more limited ideal cruising time. Several ships specialize in shorter trips between 3 to7 days while some offer trips no less than 10 days.

Third, what type of entertainment are you expecting on the ship? A number of ships offer Broadway worthy productions while others focus less on onboard entertainment. Typically, larger ships present more elaborate and diverse options than smaller ships. A few of the smaller ships have no entertainment at all, other than the occasional on-board lecture or port talk.

No matter what ship you choose, you will more than likely have a great time. “Many travelers find the thought of being on a cruise ship to be confining. Once you sail on your first cruise 95% of you will cruise again,” said Sue Swett, owner of Crystal Lake Travel.
