But now, more and more cruise lines are offering an alternative—cruises where the ship actually stays overnight in some ports.

You’ll find this on many cruises that stop in Venice, Italy, or in St. Petersburg, Russia.

Some cruise lines—such as Celebrity—are scheduling ships to overnight during major events, including the Cannes Film Festival, the British Open in Scotland, Carnival in Rio de Janeiro, and Chinese New Year in Hong Kong.

The cruise ships don’t just stay in port overnight—they often give you the opportunity to participate in these special events.

So before booking a cruise, ask about any special overnight events on these itineraries.

It’s not only an opportunity to spend more time in fewer places, it also allows you to catch your breath and actually enjoy a destination.
