Go Globetrotting on a Scavenger Hunt for Your Honeymoon
Newlyweds eager for a honeymoon that trumps all honeymoons, don’t delay. Roll up your sleeves and sign up for an adventurous honeymoon that even your friends will be talking about for years to come. Forget lounging poolside in the Caribbean, the latest honeymoon trend is epic Amazing Race–style scavenger hunts!
Okay, so if you’ve got 23 days to explore the world for your honeymoon, click over to The Global Scavenger Hunt. Just like on The Amazing Race, you’ll fly off to secret destinations on a moment’s notice and compete against more than a dozen teams. Only you won’t need to scramble for airline tickets, and everyone plays until the end. No one gets sent home early. Teams compete for the title of The World’s Greatest Travelers—oh, and a $25,000 prize, along with a cool trophy. How’s that for a wedding present?
Teams depart from Los Angeles on April 14 for a worldwide adventure that takes them all the way to, yes, Toronto. Just not the most direct way. Go west, young couple, as you circumnavigate the globe and touch down in at least 10 countries, which may or may not include Sri Lanka, Tanzania, and Iceland. (The Global Scavenger Hunt folks are notoriously cagey).
A series of clues set the stage for an adventure in which teams score points for the number of tasks completed, like taking a photo of sunrise at Angkor Wat in Cambodia or locating the world’s largest piece of carved jade in Malaysia. No smartphones allowed, so you’re on your own. The experience doesn’t come cheap at $25,000 per team, but hey, it’s your honeymoon and the cost includes all international airfare, first-class hotels, 40% of meals, even some cool travel gear.

You’ll raise money for humanitarian causes too. Past global scavenger hunts have helped elementary schools in Sri Lanka, Sierra Leone and Ecuador. They’ve even helped more than 1,800 families abroad jump-start businesses with interest-free microloans. What’s not to love about a honeymoon with a purpose?
Since not everyone has three weeks to take off for a honeymoon, think about Competitours. This 11-day scavenger hunt (departs July 4) takes 11 two-person teams across seven to eight secret destinations in Western Europe. Locations range from big cities like Rome and Munich to lesser-known towns, like Sorrento, Italy and Andermatt, Switzerland.
Daily challenges range from culinary activities, like an Iron Chef-style competition in a hillside villa in Italy to soft adventure, like sliding down an alpine coaster in the French Alps. You may get pushed out of your comfort zone, but no special skills or athletic abilities are required for any challenges.
Since most of the challenges require special arrangements or exclusive access, this style vacation truly is a one-of-a-kind experience. As a bonus, there are cash prizes for the top three teams, including a first prize of $3,630. Now that could put a serious dent in the catering bill from the wedding.
