Cruise ship review: Aranui V

Facilities 8/10

For a ship of its size, Aranui V has decent amenities: an outdoor pool, shop, large lounge, library, card room, small gym and laundry. The real standout is the spa, specialising in treatments using local products and, most notably, the opportunity to have a tattoo. The body art originated in French Polynesia and centuries of history are behind the intricate designs adorning virtually all locals.

Entertainment excursions 8/10

On-board entertainment includes captivating tribal music, dancing and classes such as palm weaving, dance, lei and jewellery-making. There are similar immersive experiences during shore visits to villages, churches, museums and botanical gardens. Active passengers can fish, dive, snorkel, horse ride (some activities are an additional cost) and embark on guided walks – including a challenging 10-mile hike.
