First Day (8th Dhu al-Hijjah)

The sacred journey of Hajj embarks on the 8th Du al-Hijjah, it’s the day when all the pilgrims, congregated at Mecca, are reminded of their duties and obligations towards Allah. Here, pilgrims are required to wear ihram garments and they devote some extra time to serve the supreme power.

The day starts with Maghrib prayers, after that all the Muslims make their way towards the location: Mina. Pilgrims rest here for one day and perform and perform special rites to seek Allah’s blessings.

Second Day (9th Dhu all-Hijjah)

On the second day, pilgrims depart from Mina and move towards Arafat. Reaching Arafat, the pilgrims take bath (if possible), perform Wudu, and have some food. It’s also a time when pilgrims listen to sermons and seek the mercy and forgiveness of Allah, saying darud sharif and making as many supplications as possible.

After sunset, pilgrims make their way to Muzdalifah, wherein they perform night praying and sleep beneath the open sky.

Third Day (Eid al Asha)

On the third day of Hajj, the pilgrims return to Mina to perform Ramy al-Jamarat, which is also known as the “Stoning of the Devil”. While performing it, pilgrims throw stones at three large pillars. Once done with the rite, male pilgrims are required to shave their head while females can cut the tip of their hair.

The day is proceeded by the animal sacrifice. Earlier pilgrims were allowed to do it by themselves, but now they can appoint a person to do it on their behalf. The meat is then cooked and distributed to poor people.

Fourth and Fifth Day

The fourth and fifth day is also designated for the stoning of the devil. After that pilgrims perform farewell Tawaf and leave for Mecca before sunset.
