Can’t afford to splurge on a date, but still want to make it special? The Downtown Boathouse offers free kayaks for public use in protected areas of the Hudson River. They offer three locations at Pier 40, Pier 96, and West 42nd street.
Try it out on Saturdays and Sundays from 9-5:30 and make a day out of it, or in July and August they extend their schedule to 5-6:30 on weekdays and you can buy your date dinner with the money you saved.

We’ve decided to upgrade the classic mini-golf date from your high school days to a real golf date. Plan to go to Chelsea Piers Driving Range when the sun is setting and try to get on one of the upper levels (there are four), so that you can watch the sun set over the Hudson river while you ask your date to “help you with your form.”
During peak hours it’s only $25 to hit 90 balls, which is a pretty good deal for those of you who aren’t so familiar with golf.

If you and your date want to have a cocktail while taking in the NYC skyline, you’ll have to venture across the Williamsburg bridge to the Wythe Hotel. The Ides is located on the sixth floor of the century-old building and the drink prices are much cheaper than anywhere you would find in Manhattan.
If you go early enough, you and your date can get a good seat and watch the sun set over the skyline while sipping on an Old Fashioned.
