After causing havoc throughout the Labor Day holiday weekend, Hermine has weakened, but will still be a concern for the New England region through Thursday.
According to AccuWeather.com, Hermine will be traveling in a northwestward direction into Tuesday night, dumping rain and heavy winds from Long Island, New York, to southern New England. The storm is also expected to cause beach erosion, coastal flooding and rough seas before turning out to sea Wednesday and Thursday.
Meteorologists warn that the storm will be causing heavy surf and dangerous conditions in and on the water. Rain will be dumped across Rhode Island and parts of parts of Massachusetts, Connecticut and New York.
In a report from CNN.com, the Royal Caribbean cruise ship Anthem of the Seas was dealing with massive waves when it was forced to sail around Hermine as it made its way from New Jersey to Bermuda on Sunday. Witnesses on the ship reported winds over 100 miles per hour and ocean swells reaching 40-to-50 feet.
As a result of the rough Atlantic Ocean, warnings have been issued to small water craft and larger ships. In addition, swimmers in impacted areas have been asked to respect all restrictions, as they have been put in place for their safety.
Thankfully, Hermine will move out to sea as the week progresses. As the hotter weather moves into the region, it will help gradually diminish the rough surf.
