This Caribbean Island Is One of the World’s Best Kept Travel Secrets

Bequia may be small in size, but boasts a wealth of recreational options.

LONDON, England, Friday March 3, 2017 – The top 20 list of the world’s best-kept travel secrets has revealed some lesser known beauty spots, from picturesque villages to palm-fringed beaches, in locations spanning the globe.

The list of under-the-radar gems was compiled by worldwide travel experts Kuoni, with additional insight from a poll of more than 2,000 people in an independent survey.

According to Kuoni spokesperson Rachel O’Reilly: “Whilst the Grand Canyon, the Great Wall of China and the Taj Mahal attract thousands of visitors per year between them and remain high on people’s wish lists, a generation of travellers are now seeking more secluded beauty spots.

“Beyond the main tourist attractions the world has so much to offer and we’re seeing a trend for people looking for alternative places and experiences away from the famous well-trodden hotspots,” she explained.

Filling the bill in the Caribbean was Bequia in the Grenadines which, while small in size, boasts a wealth of recreational options and is rarely crowded.

Along with a variety of secluded beaches and bays – perfect for swimming, snorkeling, sailing, fishing and diving – Bequia is noted for attractions including Fort Hamilton, the Soufriere volcano, a turtle sanctuary, museums – including a maritime museum – and several workshops showcasing the traditional island craft of model boat building.

Visitors can also board the ferry for the roughly hour-long trip from Port Elizabeth to Kingstown in St Vincent.
