It’s Not Royal Caribbean, But This New Ship Has Lots Of Toys And Promises Guests Norwegian Bliss

Royal Caribbean International is often the source of innovations when it comes to the new breed of mega-ships that carry 5,000 passengers or more. Everything from ice skating rinks to bumper cars and surfing machines has helped the Miami based line attract younger and more active travelers to the high seas. Now, its rival Norwegian Cruise Line will be giving those of you who are still land lovers more reasons to try a cruise when its new Norwegian Bliss launches next year with sailings to Alaska from Seattle.

Norwegian Bliss features a race track where cars can travel up to 35 miles per hour.

At 167,000 gross tons and holding 4,000 passengers, it won’t be the largest ship out there, but on its nearly 1,000 foot long two-level race track 18 stories above the ocean guests can try their skills racing electric cars that will travel up to 35 miles per hour. If that’s too fast for you, there are four-speed settings. Either way, the racing represents the evolution of cruising from bingo and shuffleboard to an active vacation choice.

Another example is the Aqua Park on Bliss with a duo of multi-story water slides and Ocean Loops, which takes guests through two 360 degree circles, including one portion through a translucent tube that extends over the side of the ship. There’s also an open air laser tag course designed as an abandoned space station. For younger guests, there is a Kids’ Aqua Park and for the youngest passengers a Splash Academy.

The private lounge for guests of The Haven, the luxury enclave on Norwegian Bliss

If you think such a big ship is not for you, Norwegian offers The Haven, an 80-suite enclave that features the largest and most lavish suites onboard, its own private pool, sunning deck, restaurant and bar. There will also be a private observation lounge at the front of the ship, perfect for its Alaska itineraries. The dedicated concierge gets you priority to any of the ship’s restaurants and shows, such as Jersey Boys and Cavern Club, with Beatles era music.
