Hurricane Irma: Is it safe to to travel to the Caribbean? Update as flights cancelled

Hurricane Irma is continuing to grow as it draws closer to the Caribbean islands, having been upgraded to an “extremely dangerous” Category 5 hurricane. 

Irma has currently hit Barbuda, with it due to hit the northern Leeward Islands later today.

The following islands have all received hurricane warnings: Antigua and Barbuda, Anguilla, Montserrat, St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Martin, Saba, St. Eustatius, St. Maarten and St. Barts.

British tourists have already been warned to evacuate from Florida in light of the impending tornado, with the region being a popular destination for families. Travellers may question if it is safe to travel to the Caribbean islands in light of the recent news.
