SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – Tourists and locals tried to get out of Florida during the calm before the storm on Thursday.

KEYT’s Kelsey Gerckens and Joey Buttitta said they cut their honeymoon short to fly home from Miami.

Joe Buttitta said they left a cruise one day early, changed flights and went standby to Dallas, where they will change planes and head home.

The newlyweds made it safely to LAX on Thursday night, but it appears there bags are still in Miami.

Buttitta said American Airlines was helpful, but other people were upset to see airline prices spike.

Many people shared their experiences on social media and flooded the Department of Transportation with complaints.

Jet Blue was quick to announce a $99 price cap on non-stops.
