How to get free perks on your honeymoon – wear Mr and Mrs clothing, pick the right airlines and shout it from the …
THE average UK wedding costs £25,000, so by the time the couple get round to a honeymoon, it’s amazing they’ve got a penny to spare.
But there are plenty of ways that newlyweds can get free perks on the post-nuptials break.
From wearing branded honeymoon clothing to simply requesting wherever you go… the following tricks could bag you an upgrade or at the very least a free bottle of bubbly.
Wear Mr and Mrs clothing
Remember Kate Beckinsale in those Mrs Wiseman bikini bottoms? You may have cringed back then but they could well be your ticket to a honeymoon freebie.
From a “Just married” leather jacket to hubbie and wifey luggage – it’s a not so subtle ploy to attract the staff’s attention.
Shout it loud and proud
There’s no room for shame when seeking a free perk – and honeymooners have the cover of being allowed to act insufferably smug.
When checking in at hotels or at the airport, or even into a restaurant – take every opportunity to tell staff that you are just married.
Travel agent Holly Ramey told Brides magazine: You should also be very proactive by telling everyone at the airport you just got married and ask if there are any upgrades possible to help get your honeymoon off to a magical start.”
Pick airlines that are known for treating honeymooners
Some airlines are better than others at treating honeymooners.
For instance, Hong Kong Airlines give newlyweds cake and champagne when they are given advance warning.
Book with a travel agent
When booking your honeymoon, do it with a travel agent.
They will know about special honeymoon packages and deals and may even be able to bag a special promotion that the hotel don’t advertise to the public.
Make restaurant reservations in advance
If you book a restaurant in advance, it gives them plenty of warning.
You can make a subtle hint by asking for a “special table as it’s our honeymoon” or requesting a customised dessert.
They may then go the extra mile.
