First cruise boat in decades set to sail in Michigan City this Saturday – WNDU

MICHIGAN CITY, Ind. (WNDU) — The Emita II becomes the first cruise boat in decades to dock at and sail out of Michigan City. Beginning Saturday, the vessel that used to travel the Erie Canal launches out of Millennium Plaza.

“We’re the first tour boat here since 1948, so it really gives me a sense of pride because where we are standing was home to some incredible vessels in the ’20s, ’30s, and ’40s,” remarked Victor Tieri, the Emita captain

Tieri, owner of Harbor Country Adventures, sough to expand his business outside of New Buffalo where he used to give lake tours on a high-speed boat. Since he says the Berrien County town lacked the capacity for a larger vessel, such as the Emita II, he is basing both boats in Michigan City.

The Emita II has space for 100 people per tour and features a full service bar along with light snacks. Every day, the vessel leaves Michigan City at 11 a.m., 2 p.m. , and 5 p.m. Central Time. A sunset tour begins at 7:30 p.m.

On Saturdays, there will be a 90-minute party cruise for adults, 21 years and older. It goes from 9:30 p.m. to midnight and includes top-deck live entertainment.

Prices are $30 for adults and $16 for kids, 11 and under. First responders and military veterans receive a 50 percent discount. Active service members ride at no cost.
