Beauden and Hannah Barrett’s luxury honeymoon hotel

It is one of the most beautiful resorts in the world, a turquoise lagoon surrounded by pristine sea, and right now, perhaps New Zealand’s most famous honeymooners are experiencing the best of the Maldives.

Beauden and Hannah Barrett are staying at the Anantara Kihavah Maldives Villas, and they are not being shy at posting some jealous-inducing Instagram photos.

The couple, who got married at Hurakia Lodge on Rakino Island on January 19, is in the Maldives after a quick stop-over in Dubai.

The All Black is missing the start of the Super Rugby season as he honeymoons with his new wife – and, no offence to Hurricanes fans, it’s pretty easy to see why.

The Anantara Kihavah Maldives Villas is located in a Unesco Biosphere Reserve and is one of those ridiculously perfect luxury resorts you see on the ads, all palm trees over pristine beaches, tropical jungle, underwater dining and those spectacular wooden hut-style villas perched over transparent, powder-blue waters.

You can “snorkel with mantas and Hawksbill sea turtles. Stargaze into the night. Dine on a deserted sandbank or beneath the ocean’s surface at this luxury resort in the Maldives”. It can be circumnavigated by foot in about 30 minutes.

It has 80 beach and over water pool villas and residences, and you can dine at “perhaps one of the only underwater restaurants in the world with an award-winning wine cellar”.

Of course, if you want to maintain your fitness before a rugby season, the resort has a gym, as well as tennis, badminton and volleyball courts, and a spa to relax in afterwards.

Wellington-based Beauden, 27, and Hannah, 24, a chartered accountant, have been together for five years. They got engaged in 2018 in Fiji.

It will be a big year for the newlyweds, with Beauden set to play a key role at the Rugby World Cup in Japan.
