Airbnb partners with Caribbean disaster management agency

Airbnb and the Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency (CDEMA) are collaborating to strengthen emergency preparedness, response and recovery measures in advance of the six-month hurricane season, which begins June 1.

Through this partnership, both groups will work to provide emergency and response information to Airbnb hosts and guests.

“CDEMA is committed to providing an efficient and effective response after a disaster event,” said Ronald Jackson, the agency’s executive director. “We are partnering with Airbnb on its Open Homes  program to diversify options for temporary housing during the response efforts and early recovery phase.”

The Open Homes program enables Airbnb hosts to offer free accommodations to emergency service workers or displaced residents as a result of a natural disaster.

Airbnb has been an active partner in disaster-affected regions around the world, including in the Caribbean. Its Open Homes program was launched in the region last August.
