MS Amsterdam turned around and went to the location in which the woman was last seen while the crew searched the vessel. She has not been found.
According to The Sun, the coast guard gave a statement that read: “HM Coastguard had been coordinating the search for a missing woman, who was last seen on a cruise ship in the early hours of Wednesday morning, approximately 240nm southwest of Malin Head, Ireland.”
“The search was terminated yesterday evening, pending further information. Our thoughts are with all those involved.”
Holland America shared similar information: “At approximately 6:50 a.m. local time, a 69-year-old female guest aboard Amsterdam was reported missing by a member of her family. The woman was last seen in her stateroom around 1:00 a.m.”
“Ship staff immediately began searching the vessel, and the ship turned around to head back toward its approximate location at the time the guest had last been seen on board,” they added. “All appropriate authorities were notified. Amsterdam was approximately 140 nautical miles southwest of the coast of Ireland when she was reported missing.”
“Due to deteriorating weather conditions, Amsterdam was released from search efforts at 2:06 p.m. by Maritime Rescue Coordination Center Southampton. The ship then resumed its planned passage to Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and is scheduled to arrive at Port Everglades May 16.”
MS Amsterdam is on a 113-day World Cruise that left Fort Lauderdale on January 22, 2019.
Speaking of the missing woman, Holland America said, “Our thoughts and prayers are with her family and friends at this difficult time.”
