La Quinta by Wyndham will enter Caribbean with DR hotels

A development agreement between La Quinta by Wyndham and Caribbean developer Profusion Group calls for eight newbuild hotels in the Dominican Republic over the next five years.

The agreement marks the La Quinta brand’s entry into the region and its first executed deal outside of the U.S. since it was acquired by Wyndham in 2018.

Four of the upper-midscale properties are slated to open in 2021 “in top locations with emerging need for select-service accommodations as alternatives to the island’s upscale all-inclusive resorts,” said Tom Barber, chief global development officer.

Barber also said that some of the properties will be in “up-and-coming cities in the D.R. with growing hotel needs.”
