Another solution is to hang up clothes in the wardrobe as soon as you arrive in your cabin and hope creases will drop out.

Cruise Critic also recommends investing in some winkle-releasing spray. “A garment bag certainly works for some, but we recommend taking a tip from US cruise fans and packing a bottle of Downy Wrinkle Releaser,” explains the site.

“Available on Amazon.com, a little squirt of this wonder spray relaxes the fabric, so you can smooth out wrinkles by hand. It’s available in both large sizes (checked bag) and a handy 90ml travel size.”

Conversely, passengers might be surprised at the items they can bring on board. A former cruise ship worker has advised holidaymakers to make the most of the cruise drinks allowance. 

“Passengers, if they drink alcohol or soda, should always take advantage of the rule on most ships that allows them to bring a certain amount of alcohol and sodas on board with them in their luggage,” former crew member Joshua Kinser told Express.co.uk.

“Most cruise lines allow passengers to bring one bottle of wine or champagne and a six-pack of soda on board with them. The amount varies so check with the cruise line before you pack,” Kinser cautioned.

Mainstream cruise lines all ban passengers from bringing spirits and beer on board.

They do, however, permit at least one bottle of wine or champagne – although corkage fees may apply.
