The couples who got married before coronavirus lockdown

“As we finished our wedding breakfast it was announced that everything would be shut the following day,” explained Sally, 27.

“Our venue did half price drinks and it was a last party before lockdown.

“Someone was truly looking over us that day.”

Sally first met Steven, 28, at a nightclub in Warrington town centre and they have been together ever since.

The date of their wedding was exactly 10 years and 10 days after they got together.

Sally said: “We had been planning the wedding since Ste proposed on May 14, 2018.

“We booked the venue within a month of getting married and it was the only venue we looked at.

“Up to a week before I had no worries about the wedding, but the week of the wedding was a huge stress.

“We had a few people not wanting to come because of the virus and some others who couldn’t physically come due to living abroad.

“But in the end the weather was great and everything went perfectly.

“Lockdown as a married couple has been amazing.

“Although our honeymoon has been cancelled we’ve kept in high spirits by decorating the house, turning our garage into a gym and enjoying long bike rides and walks together.

“We should have been going to Dubai on June 3 for our honeymoon, however we had to cancel.

“We have now decided to travel around Europe next year instead.”

Rosie and Sam Mather, both 27, fortunately managed to get married on March 14 at Sandhole Oak Barn in Congleton.

The couple, from Paddington, went to the same school and sixth form college, and have been together since 2010.

Rosie said: “We had been planning the wedding for about 18 months, pretty much straight after we got engaged in Majorca in September 2018.

“We did have concerns that coronavirus would impact our day but tried to remain positive about the situation.

“Looking back on it now, we realise how lucky we were for it to go ahead – they only had two more weddings the weekend after ours before lockdown happened.

“Our honeymoon got cancelled three days before our wedding as they had a positive case on the island in the Maldives where we were travelling to.

“We are still hopeful to go on our honeymoon within the next year.

“Once our honeymoon got cancelled we booked a mini-moon in a gorgeous boutique hotel in the Lakes instead.

“We were due to go there on March 24 but of course that got cancelled too.

“Life in lockdown has been difficult to adjust to, especially as we still feel like we haven’t enjoyed those after-wedding celebrations.

“We’ve found it hard not seeing family the most.

“I’m a self employed baker, so wasn’t working for a while which I found quite difficult.

“My husband has been working from home, so since I’ve started working again it’s been strange to have both of us working at home at the same time!”
