Everybody’s Puking on Celebrity Cruises … Again
At least 100 passengers are sick with vomiting and diarrhea on the Celebrity Infinity again.
According to a report from the Centers for Disease Control, 106 of the 2,117 passengers on the Infinity have suffered from vomiting, diarrhea and other symptoms. The illness has also affected six members of the 964-person crew.
The ship, scheduled to dock in San Diego, has increased its disinfection efforts, expecting to complete a “thorough public and accommodation super-sanitization,” said the CDC. Currently, the CDC has yet to determine the cause of the ailments, but two staffers are expected to meet with Celebrity in San Diego later today.
Gastrointestinal outbreaks are not new on Celebrity ships. This is the third time an outbreak has impacted the Celebrity Infinity since 2006, with incidents occurring in 2006 and 2013. In February, their Celebrity Equinox vessel experienced a norovirus outbreak. Royal Caribbean, the company that owns Celebrity, also observed a norovirus outbreak on its ship Grandeur of the Seas in January.
This is the second Celebrity Cruise outbreak in 2015 and the fourth time a Royal Caribbean International-owned ship suffered an outbreak in 2015 (it’s only April …).
Something tells us many spring break cruises are being canceled right now.
