Why millennials are falling in love with cruise holidays
Tattoo parlours, Peloton classes and DJ sets from Mark Ronson do not make for your stereotypical cruise holiday. But these are just a small selection of the millennial-focused activities cruise lines now offer.
The cruise industry is tapping into what could be a burgeoning customer base. Younger generations are showing the highest level of interest in taking an ocean cruise, according to recent figures from market research firm, Mintel. Of those interested in a holiday at sea in the next five years, 38 per cent were aged 16-34, 28 per cent were 35 to 54, and 28 per cent were over 55.
Cruise holidays are becoming more popular with travellers in general. The number of ocean cruises taken by passengers from the UK and Ireland hit two million for the first time last year, according to the Cruise Line International Association (CLIA) 2018 cruise review. It’s no wonder millennials are taking notice.
