Hurricane Barry disrupts travel out of New Orleans, flights canceled

Hurricane Barry has disrupted travel in and out of New Orleans forcing the Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport to cancel flights and the Port of New Orleans to shut down ahead of the storm on Saturday.
The Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport canceled all flights going into and leaving the city Saturday, July 13, as Barry began its slow trajectory up the Louisiana coast.
Airport officials posted a full list of all cancellations on their website Saturday morning and notified travelers that some airlines are currently offering options to change flights heading arriving into and departing from New Orleans.

As of 7 a.m. on Saturday, Barry was gathering strength with wind speeds of up to 70 mph and moving at about 5 mph heading north toward the south-central Louisiana coast, according to the National Hurricane Center.
The storm is expected to produce between 10 to 20 inches of rain across most of southern Louisiana over the weekend. Flood and storm surge warnings for the New Orleans-area were extended until July 16, according to the National Weather Service.
The storm has also forced the Port of New Orleans and the Port of Mobile to close, disrupting cruise ship travel at least until Monday, July 15. A spokesperson for Carnival Cruises said that their Fleet Operations Center in Miami is actively monitoring Hurricane Barry.

The cruise line issued a statement Saturday morning. “The safety of our guests and crew is our number one priority and our ships will remain a safe distance from the storm at all times,” it states.
Passengers scheduled to depart from New Orleans on the Carnival Glory Saturday, July 14 or the Carnival Valor on Monday, July 15 have been advised to sign up for text alerts to receive updates on departures.
The company will provide another update on the status of these two ships at noon on Saturday.
