The five holidays that could turn you on to cruising this year

As we enter the prime booking period for 2020 holidays, why not consider something different this year? Below are five cruises to whet your appetite.

1. Say hello to Virgin Voyages

He’s dabbled in trains, planes and even space – now Sir Richard Branson is taking on the cruise industry. The first ship of his Virgin Voyages line, Scarlet Lady, will be calling in to Dover and Liverpool in late February on the way to its homeport of Miami to start sailing Caribbean itineraries.

Having twice visited the Italian shipyard where it is being built – and spoken to the irrepressible Sir Richard about his ambitious plans – I have no doubt this will be a game-changer for the industry.

For a start, the 2,770-passenger ship will be adults only and feature ‘RockStar’ suites, a tattoo parlour, drag queen brunches and a vinyl record shop. There are more than 20 eating venues but no buffet. All restaurants, soft drinks, gratuities and WiFi are included in the fare.
