Macquarie Valley Juice shock favourites Travel and Cruise

Saturday games saw teams keen for a run with the week before being cancelled.

The first game was between Travel and Cruise (TC) and Macquarie Valley Juice.

TC have been gaining strength each week and are the team to gauge other’s progress by.

Unfortunately lady luck was on MVJ’s side.

The first goal of the day came from a post-positional Ellen Day who scored her first goal of the season.

TC’s Robert Prowse in conjunction with Mark Collins was able to get one past the MVJ out-stretched goal keeper Lachie Lawler.

The teams went to half time 1-all.

The second half saw a very determined MVJ. Troy Whittington showed the way with a goal in the corner past TC goal keeper Nat Richards for a 2-1 lead.

Nico Ioane for TC scored at the right side of the goal from a pass by Steve Morrison to level the scores.

It looked like it would be a draw but MVJ’s Alison Wilson was able to get a close shot in the circle into the back of the net to win the game for her team 3-2.

Best and fairest for MVJ were Alison Wilson, Troy Whittington and Olivia Harvey.

For TC, Nic McLehose, Bec Box and Ben Kerr were the best and fairest.

The second game was between Andrews Transport and IC Cool.

It was a fast game with Ian Cottee appearing to be everywhere and he was able to draw first blood with a crisp shot past a diving Bobby Nemeth.

Nemeth made some great saves against IC Cool’s attack with diving and patting to block the onslaught. 

Aaron Saliba for Andrew’s was able to get a goal through a charging goal keeper for IC Cool.

The teams went into half-time locked at 1-all.

The second half saw Mark Bennie team up with Matt Stanley to bring the ball forward and Bennie managed to break through the sister act of Clair Davis and Deb Kerr.

Cottee worked with Bennie and Cory Pilley was able to score two more goals, bringing the final score to 4-1 to IC Cool.

Best and fairest for Andrews Transport were Bruce McLehose, Shona Young and Andrew Kenny.

For IC Cool they were Matt Stanley, Ian Cottee and Lisa Cottee.

Games for this weekend will be at 1pm Andrews Transport taking on Macquarie Valley Juice, and at 2.30pm IC Cool meeting Travel and Cruise.
