A honeymoon in the US

Q. My wife and I are looking at going to the USA next year for our honeymoon. We’ve got a rough idea of what we want to see and do but don’t know if we will have enough time to spend in each city. This is our itinerary at the moment:
Fly to NYC – 7 days
Train to Philadelphia – 3 days
Train to DC – 4 days
Fly to Chicago – 3 days
Fly to San Francisco – 7 days
Is this enough time in each place to not feel rushed?
We’ll not be hiring a car at any time so we’ll be reliant on public transport. The two places that we both have to visit are NYC and SFO everything else is a bonus really.
A. The above looks like a fantastic trip!
I think that if New York and San Francisco are your ‘must sees’ then 7 days in each is a great about of time to really get to experience the city.
You’ll have time to do all of the main touristy things as well as have time to just relax and soak up these two very cool cities.
I assume that the above days include your travel days too – this still gives you plenty of time. It’s only just over an hour by train from New York to Philadelphia and then just over 1.5 hours from Philadelphia to DC so if you go in the morning you’ll still have nearly a full day on your arrival day to explore, so I think it is definitely worth adding them to your itinerary.
Alternatively, if you wanted just a quick look at Philadelphia you could do a day tour from New York, many of which include Amish Country, which would mean an extra day up your sleeve for one of the other destinations – although it is likely to just be a drive through tour of the city with a couple of stops at key sites and you may want to explore more in depth – and you wouldn’t have time for a Philly Cheesesteak!
