What are the useful tips to be followed at the time of travel to Xian?

Before travelling to Xian, if you know that place well, it is an added advantage. Ensure that you are ready with your passport and right visa with correct spellings of your name. Get two copies of your passport identification, in case your passport is lost. Keep it separate along with the phone numbers of your friends or family.

Flights: Contact the relevant airline and its schedule in advance. For transpacific fights, check-in 3 hours prior and for domestic flights 2 hours suffices the need.

Passport and visa: The passports of foreign residents are valid for 6 months once entry in China is made. You can get a tourist visa before entering there.

Travelling: You can either take a metro taxi cab with or without the metre or seek assistance of Xian travelling representatives.

Light luggage: Carry light luggage. The checked baggage weight should not exceed 20 pounds per person.  Additional carry-on- bag should weigh less than 5 pounds to be easily fitted in overhead bins. Excess weight might charge you $2-$4.

Baggage locks: Prepare individual locks for each bag. Liquids and gels should be packed over 100 ml.

Inoculation: It is not mandatory but look for a travel clinic in China through yellow pages in advance in case of any health issues.

Medications: Long ravels might upset your stomach due to change in place, food, sleeping habits. So carry relevant medications.

Pollution: Carry a mask to prevent yourself against heavy smog.

Internet: Though widely available, but it is expensive and accrues varied charges based on the hotels. You might require buying an Airport Express through Apple for using an ipad or iphone in hotel rooms to convert cable modem into wireless.

Money: Credit cards are not widely acceptable and shopping through cash is easy.  Ensure secure pockets.

Chinese currency: Other Xian travel useful tips include awareness regarding its currency. The unit of Renminbi or RMB is Yuan which is again divided in 10 Jiao (dimes) and then 10 Fen (cents) RMB denominations are available in 1,2,5,10,20, 50 and 100 Yuan. Smaller units are available in the form of nickel coins in denominations f 1, 2 and 5.

 Exchanging Currency: Get your money exchanged after arrival at airports. Bank of China and hotels also facilitate you with the same. Return the exchange to return RMB at the end of trip.

ATM: They are not easily available on most of the places, so bring enough cash. Have secure money belts for carrying huge cash.

Credit Cards: Check with your credit card company if your credit card works in China as mostly they are not applicable on most of the hotels, upscale shops and tourist’s stores.

Time difference: It is 16 hours ahead of PST. Check world clock for additional information.

Water: It is widely chlorinated. Prefer drinking purified water through bottles. Hotels offer boiled water.

Meals: Hotels offer buffet breakfast. Dumpling Banquet, Noodles and Hot pot dinner are popular regional cuisines.

Climate: Its northern area is cold and dry while southern region is hot and humid. It rains during July and August.

Dress: People dress-up in various layers to cope up with changing temperature.

Media: Media publications are in English.

Cell phone: Blackberry and iPhone can be used for roaming.
