Cunard’s ‘Three Queens’ ships sail into Liverpool for historic celebration

The cruise line’s three ships – Queen Mary 2, Queen Victoria and Queen Elizabeth sailed into the River Mersey in formation before performing a series of “river dance” maneouvres off Pier Head.

It is the first time the Three Queens have all been in Liverpool together and thousands lined the river to watch.

The company’s headquarters was in the city until the 1960s, and this Three Queens Liverpool Salute is a tribute to Cunard’s spiritual home.

Queen Mary 2 lead the formation along the Mersey at midday, and the programme finished with a fly-past by the Red Arrows at 1.50pm filling the sky with red, white and blue smoke.
