New York Times: Travel blog paints Peru as an adventurous honeymoon …

Honeymooners Helen Toomer and Eric Romano were looking for a different kind of adventure to contrast their artsy, quick-paced and high-fashion lifestyles. They found it on a 10-day trip in Peru.

In the Travel Diary section of the New York Times, Julie Baumgardner recaps the 10-day honeymoon spent by two US-natives after they got married on May 30.

““We were in bed by 8 or 9 every night. It was like, ‘Oh, I’m so tired from all this fresh air,’”“ says Toomer regarding her intense hikes and adventures writes Baumgardner.

They ate alpaca meat, visited markets, hiked Machu Picchu and floated on Lake Titicaca, among other exciting iconic activities Peru offers travelers.

““We walked around the island and never seen so many wild guinea pigs just running around,” Toomer says of their trip to Reed Island in Lake Titicaca. “We climbed to the top, it took such a long time, and we had the most spectacular supper. It was just stupid — you’d be having a whole pig and potatoes, really, really simple, but the best thing ever, and looking out over the sea. And the whole time I was thinking, ‘How am I so lucky to be here?’””

About their stay in Arequipa’s La Casa del Melgar they said, “Here is the garden of our hotel in Arequipa. This is one of the most epic places — it used to be an old school, and the rooms were magnificent. The gardens were just unbelievable.”

For the couple who both live high-pace lives with packed schedules, the trip together was what they needed.

“That’s why Eric and I really wanted to make an adventure. Travel really resets you,” says Toomer according to Baumgardner.
