Visit Greenwich Tall Ships Festival, near site of London’s new cruise terminal

London Mayor Boris Johnson has given the go ahead to a new terminal that will host up to 55 cruise ships a year when it is opened in 2017.

The development will include 477 new homes, a skills academy, restaurants, cafes and bars, and is expected to create new jobs and boost tourism in the area.

“We have worked with the local authority and the developer to ensure the new terminal and surrounding infrastructure will meet the needs of thousands of tourists coming to the city each year,” said London’s deputy mayor for planning, Sir Edward Lister.

Only mid-size and small cruise ships will be able to dock at the terminal and Cllr Danny Thorpe, the Royal Borough of Greenwich’s cabinet member for regeneration and transport, said: “This is an important step forward, not just for Greenwich, but for the capital.
