The most beautiful places to see when you tour Petra

Petra is known for its beautiful locations and you definitely need to visit these iconic places that will captivate your mind while you are on your trip to this beautiful city in Jordan.

The Monastery: The archaeological city has a lot of beautiful sights but none of them come close to what the Monastery offers. It’s similar to the next tourist spot we will discuss, The Treasury, but the Monastery is huge and you will find beautiful stone seats that have been cut out from the side dividers and also the iconic sacrificial stone that’s near the staircases. The structure was most likely built as a tomb sanctuary and it has remained intact even after all these years.

Treasury: The treasury is close to the Monastery and the four cut out sections made of stone have not been able to stand the test of time with only three of them remaining and one having succumbed to the forces of nature. The mystic atmosphere of the location will charm you and there are many small rooms and water channels. The treasury used to be brimming with riches once upon a time but right now there’s nothing much left except the structure itself which draws tourists from around the world.

Royal Tombs: No tour Petra is complete if you do not visit the Royal Tombs; The East Cliff in Petra is home to a range of tombs which are often referred to as the Royal tombs. You’ll find it right near the Petra Theater and only a short walk away. It’s not only the tombs that fascinate tourists but also the view that you get when you look from the East Cliffs that makes the experience a lot more memorable.

Siq: The Siq is just a short stroll away from the Bab Al Siq/Gate to the Siq. It’s just near the Narrow Canyons and just ahead of the Nabatean Dam. It’s hard to find so it’s best advised to take a tour guide along on your tour Petra to be able to easily identify these iconic locations. The passageway to the Siq is beautiful and you will find water channels that draw water from the city’s outskirts into the City. The dam is one of the best locations to travel to if you are visiting Petra and you will love seeing how amazing the view is from such a height.         

High place of sacrifice: This iconic location is close to the Petra Mountain’s summit and this is where all of the Nabateans performed their killings. You need to climb 800 steps to reach the altar where people used to sacrifice animals to the gods. It’s recommended that you carry enough food and water to you because it’ll be a long trip up and down. The top of the altar is very breezy and makes sure that you carry trekking shoes for a comfortable trip up. You will also find two Obelisks that had been cut out by the Nabateans to symbolize two of their gods – Dushara and al-Uzza.
