From bachelor party to prenup photo shoot, travelling is a must

BENGALURU: Shruti Shankar is all set to tie the knot on December 30 in the temple town of Shringeri in Chikkamangaluru, 300 km from Bengaluru. “My parents are very religious and followers of Shankaracharya Mutt. Their wish was to get me married in that place,” she says.
But this is not it. She has travelled from Kancheepuram to Chennai and Hyderabad to buy silk sarees with her mother and her would-be mother-in-law. “It was a journey we made to get the best of the silk sarees and build stronger relationships between the two families. But we delved deep into the history, culture and architecture of Kancheepuram and visited the renowned temples too,” she told TOI.
The silk route trip she made was an eye opener for the three women too. The trio met the weaver community and bought high quality Kancheepuram silk sarees from the cooperative markets at better prices, Shruti claims.
With wedding bells ringing for hundreds of couples across the country, the event becomes more elaborate and grand. Travel is an integral part of the grandeur but it just does not limit to destination wedding and perfect romantic honeymoon.From traveling to meet the bride-to-be to choosing the destination for wedding and fixing the itinerary, traveling to buy silk in each and every state’s silk hub going to perfect holiday destinations for spa treatment before the D-day and even going to perfect locations for the pre-wedding photo-shoot, each and every event is a memory that the couples getting into the wedlock want to frame up.
This is exactly what HolidayIQ’s Wedding Wanderlust report 2015 reveals. The online travel community and holidays recommendation platform studied the patterns and reasons what makes its community of 12 million travel around weddings. Hari Nair, founder and CEO, said: Weddings have always given reasons to travel for Indians. However with destinations, mini-moons and shopping-travels and other interesting trends catching on, weddings have emerged as a serious market for travel. Beaches, heritage destinations continue to top the list of preferred wedding destinations but recently hill stations have also garnered interest. Andaman and Nicobar islands are also come to the map after Udaipur, Kerala, Jaipur and Goa for the choice of destination wedding.”
Susan Jackson, a store manager in the city and a bride-to-be is all set to tie the knot by the end of this month in her most loved holiday destination–Goa. “I love traveling and being in midst of nature. And both me and my partner love Goa so it was obsvious to be our wedding destination. But I have travelled across the country and picked up wedding trousseau,” she says.
She went to Surat to get Lambadi–a traditional saree of Gujarat and to Kancheepuram to get traditional south Indian silk sarees and to Kerala for other things too.
Men and women also travel to preferred holiday destinations for their bachelor/spinster parties and pre-nupcleanup too. Couples also travel to religious places immediately after the wedding with their parents and parents-in-law called mini-moon and then travel romantic places for the most memorable honeymoon.
While Munnar and Alleppy in Kerala and Havelock Islands in Andamans, Kodaikanal in Tamil Nadu and Panitop in Jammu and Kashmir have featured to be five top destinations for honeymoon, Havelock Islands emerged to be the most favoured destinations for pre-wedding photoshoot, followed by Humayun’s tomb in Delhi and Taj Mahal in Agra.
