Passengers Discover Gruesome Death on Cruise Ship

Passengers aboard Carnival’s Ecstasy cruise ship are recovering after stumbling upon the horrific aftermath of a crew member’s death. 

On Dec. 27, Matt Davis and his family were headed to dinner, when they saw blood streaming down the elevator doors.

“To look and see the elevator with just blood coming down like a sheet, and not stopping… it was a real life scene of The Shining,” Davis told WFTX.

According to the Associated Press, the blood was the result of an incident involving Jose Sandoval Opazo, a 66-year-old electrician on the ship. Opazo died of an apparent accident during the final leg of a three-day cruise from Miami.

After the discovery, crew members did their best to shield other passengers from the horrific scene. The elevator was sectioned off, and the authorities called. 

Police and Carnival are investigating the incident and haven’t released any details on the actual cause of death.

In a statement, Carnival announced that they are providing a care team to support Opazo’s family during this difficult time.
