Travel Tips: Disembark from that cruise ship — stress-free
Thousands of people disembarking from a cruise ship and racing for the airport all at once is pure pandemonium. Here are a few tips to help you disembark in stress-free fashion, even in Miami, the busiest cruise port in the world.
Plan a late flight: Not only does this eliminate the crazed rush off the ship, it gives you extra time to do a few things in port.
Carry your own luggage: Why go through the hassle of hunting for your bags on the terminal floor? We take ours up to the ship’s pool deck and relax while everyone else rushes off. Grab a snack there, while you’re at it.
Plan an excursion: Check out what shore excursions — an airboat joy ride through Everglades National Park, perhaps — your cruise ship offers. You’ll get a transfer to the airport when you’re done, and they look after your luggage, too.
Chill at a resort: Get a day pass at a hotel resort and you can soak up the sun and enjoy the amenities before heading to the airport. In Miami, a quick Uber ride took us to The Savoy, where for $25 (plus $5 for each checked bag), you get access to the beach, swimming pool and gym.
