Hurricane Irma travel UPDATE: British Airways cancels flights to the Caribbean

• Hurricane Irma has now been upgraded to a Category 5 hurricane, with winds of up to 175mph
• British Airways has cancelled some of their flights to the Caribbean, with Virgin and Caribbean Airlines following suit
• The Foreign and Commonwealth Office has issued a warning to British travellers heading to the islands

Hurricane Irma has been upgraded to “extremely dangerous” Category 5 Hurricane, as it travels across many of the Caribbean islands and Florida.

A state of emergency was declared this morning in Florida as Flordia governor Rick Scott stated people should “prepare for the worst and hope for the best”.

Hurricane warnings are also in place for the following islands: Antigua, Barbuda, Anguilla, Montserrat, St Kitts, and Nevis, Saba, St Eustatius and Saint Maarten, Saint Martin and Saint Barthelemy, British Virgin Islands, US Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, Vieques and Culebra.
