Patty DeRoo, owner of Crystal Lake Travel Agency, Inc., said adults only, all-inclusives continue to be the most popular destinations for newlyweds, based on budget and the amenities they offer, including gourmet dining, spa facilities and a roster of activities.

“People are going there for the adults only romantic atmosphere, and enjoying the beach and the resort,” she said.

The top three all-inclusive honeymoon destinations include Mexico’s Riviera Maya, Jamaica, and Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic. Those also have the most non-stop flights from Chicago.

For honeymooners who want to be out and about, Hawaii is often a top pick, said DeRoo.“It’s a favorite for those that want to experience the location. You can rent a car and explore the scenery and local ambiance in a destination like Hawaii,” she said.

If budget and time allow, Tahiti and Bora Bora are popular post-wedding hotspots.

“The time it takes to fly to Tahiti as opposed to Hawaii, you really have to have at least seven days due to the jetlag. Ideally, it would be a 10-day vacation,” DeRoo said.
