Caribbean dream: I’ve found my ideal tropical island
When I was young and the Bounty adverts were my primary source material, I thought that all tropical island paradises were created equal. All you needed was sand and palm trees, and everything else was just semantics. Today I know that was folly, fuelled by ignorance and chocolate-coated coconut. What I realised in Antigua is that tropical island paradises, which we will call TIPs for short, are not equal. They aren’t so much about what you want as what you don’t want. The best are about having the freedom to do absolutely nothing that only comes when there’s nothing to do.
