Is it safe to visit the Caribbean? Latest travel update as earthquake rocks Venezuela

Simón Bolívar International Airport in Caracas, Venezuela remains open, as does Piarco International Airport in Trinidad, A.N.R. Robinson Intentional Airport in Tobago and Maurice Bishop International Airport in Grenada.

A Virgin Atlantic spokeswoman told Express.co.uk that none of the airline’s flights have been impacted.

British Airways flights have also not been affected by the earthquake, a BA spokeswoman told Express.co.uk.

Venezuela’s interior minister, Néstor Luis Reverol, has tweeted: “We call on all of the people of Venezuela to remain calm.”

Authorities were ready to deal with “any emergency”, he added.

The USGS have said that the earthquake occurred “as the result of oblique reverse faulting at intermediate depth.”
