Eye on New Developments
As one of the most popular tourist regions in the world for American travelers, the Mexican Caribbean is in a constant state of evolution. Throughout Quintana Roo, developers continue to add new options, with a careful eye towards maintaining the spirit of the region while staying on the cutting edge. Here’s a look at some of the biggest developments your clients will want to know about throughout Quintana Roo this past year.
Just north of Cancun, Costa Mujeres is gearing up to welcome two luxury sister properties from the Palladium Group in November: the adults-only all-inclusive TRS Coral Hotel and the adjacent family-friendly Grand Palladium Costa Mujeres Resort Spa.
On the other side of Cancun, in Puerto Morelos, Haven Riviera Cancun becomes the first North American property of Spain-based resort company Hipotels with its October debut. The intimate resort offers a contemporary all-inclusive experience with 333 guest rooms.
Continuing south towards Playa del Carmen, Chablé Maroma Riviera Maya debuts in September with an emphasis on luxury, wellness, Mayan traditions and a culinary program helmed by well-known Mexican chef Jorge Vallejo. A sister property of Chablé Resort, near Merida, the lavish new spa resort is already a member of Leading Hotels of the World, with 70 guest rooms that feature retractable glass walls, an indoor-outdoor rain shower and a private pool; a spacious spa built around a cenote; a yoga pavilion and more.
Other properties showing off a fresh face include Playacar Palace, which re-opened in Playa del Carmen earlier this year after a $14 million renovation; and the Grand Oasis Tulum, where a resort-wide refresh added the high-end resort-within-a-resort called The Sian Ka’an at Grand Tulum, as well as the Sensoria Spa.
Another few thousand guest rooms are already on the drawing board for 2019 and beyond—check back next month to see what’s on tap for the new year, along with other Mexican Caribbean news, selling points and highlights throughout the year in Travel Weekly and TravelAge West print and digital.
