When Kirsten Jamieson-Harwood, 29, put on her wedding cufflinks they were more than just two placeholders on a dress shirt.
They had photos of her mother and her future wife’s father on them, symbolising the parents they had lost and who would have dreamed of being there on their daughters big day.
‘Even though all the elements of our day were thought out and purposeful, the simplest but most heartfelt element Kirsten had organised,’ Kat Jamieson-Harwood, 31, told FEMAIL.

‘They were personalised cufflinks that were made from photos of our parents who have passed. Her mother and my dad.
‘We felt them with us throughout the whole day and saw them with us in all of our photos, as she truly wore her heart on her sleeves. It was such a beautiful touch.’

‘We enjoyed spending our time after our wedding in Byron Bay with interstate friends and family that had travelled from overseas, which was really special,’ Kat explained

‘To have a baby, is the most exciting step that we are both looking forward to now that we are married,’ Kat said
‘We enjoyed spending our time after our wedding in Byron Bay with interstate friends and family that had travelled from overseas, which was really special,’ Kat explained.
‘As for a proper honeymoon, we would have loved to travel to somewhere tropical or of course Europe as many people have suggested, but our time and money has been spent saving to have IVF.
‘To have a baby is the most exciting step that we are both looking forward to now that we are married.
‘We still have a year of planning before then so we will try to spend as much time together and maybe sneak a week off somewhere in between.’
Kirsten and Kat met on a night out five years ago in their hometown of Brisbane and remember feeling like ‘the chemistry was undeniable’.
‘To meet someone who shared the same values, beliefs and morals would be the foundation of where our love grew,’ Kat explained
During a trip to New York City the pair visited one of the city’s greatest landmarks, the State Library, and Kirsten popped the question

‘She took me by the hand and led me out the front of the building to show me a movie she had created with footage from all of our closest friends and family supporting her decision to ask for my hand in marriage.
‘Whilst at the time the marriage equality yes vote still had not passed – the vote from our loved ones is what mattered the most.’
Using secret Pinterest boards Kirsten and Kat planned a ‘bohemian yet classic ceremony’ at the Earth House in Byron Bay.
‘We wanted to put a modern touch on our outfits but also keep our family heritage in mind,’ Kat said.

‘Both my wife and I wanted to be involved in the small details as much as the extravagant,’ Kat said
‘As Kirsten is of Scottish decent she thoughtfully had a traditional kilt custom designed for her, complete with an authentic sporran and ghillie brogues.
‘I had always envisioned getting married in a white dress covered in lace so I found my dream dress and had it sent from New York.’
The location of the ceremony was kept a secret and guests were brought to the garden escape in a red double-decker bus.

‘Both my wife and I wanted to be involved in the small details as much as the extravagant,’ Kat said.
‘From our Scottish Piper who escorted Kirsten down the aisle to our local acoustic female guitarist who played for my bridesmaids and entrance song.
‘Champagne towers and roaming espresso martini’s for dessert and an exquisite geode crystal cake custom made by Australia’s Greatest Bake Off winner Nancy Ho.’
The day was undoubtedly the best of their lives and the perfect beginning to forever.
