Alex Danson: ‘How I struck gold in Norway’

We planned this trip twice. Last year my husband, Alex, and I were unable to go because my sister, Claire, had a terrible cycling accident. She hit a tractor and was paralysed from the waist down. We were set to go again earlier this year, then Covid-19 happened and we couldn’t travel. It’s a very delayed honeymoon — we got married last September.

We’re both active, and that was a big part of our decision to go to Norway. We wanted to be in the fresh air. It’s so beautiful here we can’t quite believe it.

Travelling in our van, which we’ve named Matilda, we’re completely self-sufficient. It allows us to get off the beaten track. We’ve hardly seen a soul. Al converted it two
