Travel Experience to Weizhou Island-the Youngest Volcanic Island
Weizhou Island is located on the south from the Beihai city, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. It is the youngest volcanic island in China. Looking at the island from a helicopter, it looks like a jade in arch shape floating on the sea. It is attracting more and more tourists in recent years for its beautiful island views and subtropical atmosphere.
Weizhou Island is about 6.5 kilometers from north to south and 6 kilometers from west to east, covering an area of 25 square kilometers. Judging from its size, it is not a very large island, but it’s filled with hot tourist attractions. To name some of the most famous ones, Three Grandmas Temple, Saint Mother Temple, Catholic Church and Crocodile Hill Park.
The catholic church of Weizhou island is a Gothic architecture built in French Renaissance period, formed with church, monastery for monks and nuns, hospital, priest building and nursery room. Because there was no armored concrete in 100 years ago, all the construction materials were from the corals, rocks and other solid stuff on the island. The whole construction took 20 years, no wonder it still looks great even today. Unfortunately, some parts of it were damaged during the Great Cultural Revolution. What’s left today are only the church and the bell tower. So you should consider this place for your affordable China tours,
On the southeast side of the Weizhou Island, there is a tiny island called Sun-setting Island. In this 1.89 square kilometers area, you can find everything you want for a tropical island, trees, flowers, rocks, shells, corals and so many other things. It’s interesting there is even a small village on the island, with around 300 villagers in total. It’s worth mentioning every family is feeding a special goat called volcano black sheep. They are small and grow in a very slow speed, more interestingly, they are super shy to see strangers. Very funny sheep.
The Crocodile Hill park is also called the National Volcano Geological Park, where you can see tons of volcano rocks in interest shapes and the most amazing volcano sea erosion landscape. As a matter of fact, there are so many hot spots inside. So it will be a great idea to check the map at the park entrance. This is the best location to watch the sea, high sea waves washing against the rocks, causing the booming sound. Blue sky, blue sea, white cloud, giant rocks, all mix together, definitely the most beautiful scene I’ve ever seen in my Holidays in China.
My favorite place of the island is the Five-color Beach. Also known as the Sesame Beach, it got such name because there are numerous small black pebbles scatter on the beach. When the sun is coming out, those lovely stones reflect the most beautiful colors on earth. If you are a diver, you are in luck. Zhengzhou island is the paradise for scuba-dive. Going underwater and seeing the pretty corals, swimming with the fish, making your whole China trips more interesting and unforgettable.
