Sightings: Cunard Hosts “Greatest Showman” Premiere on QM2

Friday evening Cunard hosted the premiere of “The Greatest Showman” onboard the Queen Mary 2 while it was docked at Brooklyn Cruise Terminal, which the line said is the first time a Hollywood movie premiere has taken place on a passenger cruise ship.

Travel Agent had a chance to attend a reception onboard immediately prior to the premiere. Top cruise industry executives, including Carnival Corp CEO Arnold Donald, Carnival UK CEO Stein Kruse, Carnival UK President Josh Weinstein, Cunard Senior Vice President Simon Palethorpe and Cunard Senior Vice President Josh Leibowitz were on hand, as well as Hollywood insiders like 20th Century Fox Film’s Chairman and CEO Stacey Snider.

“The Greatest Showman,” which debuts December 20, is a new musical by the same lyricists behind La La Land. Starring Hugh Jackman, Michelle Williams, Zendaya, Zac Efron and Rebecca Ferguson, it explores the life of P.T. Barnum.

At the reception Leibowitz noted that Barnum had both sailed on Cunard as a passenger and as an entertainer.

After the event, Travel Agent had a chance to tour the ship before it departed on a seven-night transatlantic crossing. “The Greatest Showman’s” costume designer, Ellen Mirojnick, remained onboard during the sailing to offer talks on her career and showcase designs from the movie while mingling with guests.
